Maintaining temperature in a vaporizer is an important factor so a vaporizer has to sustain the temperature precisely. For maintaining the temperature precisely electric heating elements are used and this also increases their prices and may cost up to several hundred U.S. dollars.

Basically vaporizers may be classified as the following
• By thermal conduction
• By convection
• By thermal radiation
In thermal conduction the substance to be heated is placed on a metal plate to which sufficient temperature is given to release the active constituents. These were the very first vaporizers that were produced in the market.
The vaporizers which use the method of convection have a heating element that is not in direct contact with the substance to be heated. Its basic principle is that hot air passes through it which heats the substance causing it to release the active components. Using this method more active components are released than in the method of conduction heating.
Vaporizers based on the method of radiation basically subject the substance to bright light. The substance present in the vaporizer absorbs the energy from radiation and its temperature increases. Vaporizers using this technique are uncommon in the market. These vaporizers are capable of giving the same performance as of convection vaporizers.
