It’s hard imagining life in today’s world without a credit card. It’s no joke trying to order tickets for the theatre without your American Express card, if like me you have cancelled it. No, I wasn’t even able to hire a Hertz rental car, or buy tickets for a plane trip to Baltimore over the internet. Not that many years ago, people preferred cash to credit, but not now.
It is a global phenomenon buying products or services with your American Express credit card without even caring whether or not we can afford them or even need them. Your American Express card may be convenient but there is a heavy penalty for buying now and paying later. In some places, credit card debt is spiraling out of control. I am not joking when I say that credit card borrowing is probably the biggest problem facing Americans today.
After considering this I decide to get rid of my American Express credit card at least for the present. I found it too easy using my card and spending money that wasn’t mine to spend. I was using my card for just about everything, but I soon noticed the debts were mounting. The debt became too great for me to pay and I didn’t know what to do.
It took a debt consultancy specialist to finally get me back into a position where I actually started to pay my debt off. It was an awful situation I found myself in. There is a happy ending though because my debt is paid off and the American Express credit card has been destroyed. Most of you reading this will probably think it’s not the fault of the credit card but you need to understand something fundamental about human psychology.
I was more conscious of the cost of things when I paid for goods in cash. But like I said before, a credit card made everything way too easy. I would spend money on everything, almost like a person possessed but before long, there wasn’t anything left. So remember, if you don’t have an American Express card, you don’t have any worries.
